Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs for short, are common goals to realize a better world where “no one is left behind.” They consist of 17 goals and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030. These were set in stone with the unanimous agreement to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by all member-nations at the 2015 UN Summit.
At Shoei Yakuhin, we have pursued eco-friendly oleochemicals made from natural oils since our founding in 1937. For example, the palm oil that we have used to make fatty acids since 1951 poses minimal load on the environment and is also renewable. And because of these qualities, it is now being looked at as a viable natural alternative to petroleum.
By broad consensus, protecting the seas and farmlands against climate change is one of the more urgent matters of the 17 SDGs.
Right from the very beginning, we started offering products that were not only useful but eco-friendly as well. So, I’m proud to say that we were implementing SDG practices and promoting a circular economy long before SDGs even existed.
